CBP’s November Monthly Operational Update reflects an incredible amount of work on behalf of the American people to keep dangerous drugs and products out of our communities, to facilitate travel and billions of dollars in trade, and to maintain security along our borders, it’s an honor to lead a workforce whose mission is so vital to our economic health and national security. CBP's vigilance is key to disrupting smugglers and transnational criminal organizations as they exploit vulnerable populations and attempt to traffic illegal and dangerous products.

It's a very complex set of dynamics.

We continue to rescue and provide medical assistance to those in distress, my message to those considering taking this dangerous journey is simple: this is not an easy passage, the human smugglers only care about your money – not your life or the lives of your loved ones, and you will be placed in removal proceedings from the United States if you cross the border without legal authorization and are unable to establish a legal basis to remain.

The report showed there were failures to make good decisions at multiple levels of the organization, failures to maintain command and control over Horse Patrol Units, lack of appropriate policies and training, and the overall chaotic nature of the situation at Del Rio at the time contributed to the incident. Several agents engaged in unprofessional or dangerous behavior, including one instance in which an agent used denigrating and offensive language.

As temperatures start to rise in the summer, human smugglers will continue to exploit vulnerable populations and recklessly endanger the lives of migrants for financial gain. The terrain along the Southwest Border is extreme, the summer heat is severe, and the miles of desert that migrants must hike after crossing the border are unforgiving, our message to those who would try and gain illegal entry to the United States remains the same – don’t make the dangerous journey only to be sent back.

I want to make a difference.

As a paramedic for 10 years public health has always been one of my top concerns, and because of that I think it's absolutely imperative that we do everything possible to stop the spread of Covid. And Title 42 is a CDC authority, and I think it helps with this.

His use of deadly force in this incident is a clear violation of department policy and directly contradicts multiple aspects of our use of force and training.

There were still people at that time who felt I’m an easier target because I’m a gay man, that’s not the first time in my career I’ve experienced that.

What if we were to quintuple that number, would you then call it a crisis?

This is both a highly tragic, really horrific incident with many unknowns at this time.
