Each film has suggested a slightly different style and tone, this one, I think, is much more modern, it's edgier, the crisis that we are dealing with is very real and present and something that people talk about, and it suggests a kind of an urgency and a psychological focus that creates another type of tension. It's a bit more modern cinematically in its approach.

Of course, I was completely enthralled by the space program as a kid - particularly Apollo 11 - and was glued to the television like most of the world. Then I stopped thinking about it too much. I was a little disappointed that they weren't going on to Mars at the time, but I didn't think much of it. I was more interested in becoming a director at that point in my life and falling in love, things like that.

When Apollo 13 appeared as an opportunity and I began to tackle that in as authentic a way as I possibly could, I really became enthralled by the philosophical side of space travel, and why we need to explore - what it means to us here on Earth - all of those things. I became a huge proponent.

I didn't know very much about opera, i love throwing Director Ron Howard into subjects where I have a fascination and a real curiosity.

I knew that operas were very dramatic and that his life was very dramatic and so it was pretty easy early on to say' Hey, I wonder if we can actually understand these performances of particular arias and use them in the film so in a way we're kind of telling his story', we're almost making an opera about Pavarotti using these arias and these great performances because the performances are just staggering.

Pavarotti, it's unbelievably difficult to become that kind of tenor at that level. That's not just a gift but years of passion, focus and work.

We went so fast to get the movie ready, i was really on pins and needles, and I was so gratified to hear laughs and hear cheers in all the places I hoped and I dreamed that they would be. It was a good night. I slept well last night.

This was a very unusual circumstance, and I decided to take it on frankly as a kind of a challenge, i'm so glad that I jumped in.

It's been a rough time.

Over the years I've grown more conservative, i've come to realize that if in fact it does hurt me in the entertainment business, at this point in my life, that's OK. The cloth's been cut. I am who I am.

As a conservative, I don't do a lot of talking with my fellow workers about politics. The business is — I don't want to say 'infested' but I will — with a lot of liberal-minded people, so when I go to work, I do my job. Away from work, I have a very wonderful group of like-minded friends and we gather and we share values and we get along great.

Donald Trump is a remarkable man in terms of being able to sell himself, but let us not forget he was a television star for many years. That resonates with the public. I understand that because I know the business well. He is speaking what a lot of people somewhere in their heart kind of have, he says it in a rough, rough way, like the character in 'Network' who said 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!' Well, the Donald is doing that and it's pretty effective. But I must really consider, will he be a good president? And that's, in my mind, where the conversation stops.

I'm interested in all forms of content, including Internet and gaming. On the TV side, cable has sparked a renaissance of the medium and that will continue for storytellers.

You can't expect perfection. It is important to sort of acknowledge some of our imperfections. I write them down. There's something about acknowledging mistakes and being able to put them down on paper; they become facts of your life that you must live with. And then, hopefully, you can navigate the road a little bit better.

I have very close friends who are very devout Catholics, and I talked to them before the 'Da Vinci Code,' and it was very difficult for them, but I talked to them before 'Angels and Demons,' and they said the scandal, abuse of power and violence was part of church history, which you can read about in the Vatican bookstore.
