The late Rev. Peter Gomes at The Memorial Church at Harvard was a true mentor to me when I was in college. He instilled in me a commitment to service, saying that it's not enough to believe in service, or support those who serve - you ought to find a way yourself to serve. When I looked at different options after college, nobody inspired me more than the 18- and 19-year-olds who serve on the front lines of our nation's military. Serving with them in the Marines as we together served our country was the greatest honor of my life to date.

As someone sent four times to that misguided war, I have seen the costs of Bolton's disastrous foreign policy in a way he never will -- firsthand, and at the loss of thousands of American lives.

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi wants to boil this down to a personal argument, but this is so much bigger than Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, it's about the entire, stagnant, three-person leadership team and having a serious conversation about promoting leaders who reflect the future of our caucus.

Candidates like Amy McGrath are running against the establishment, they're rebelling, putting country over party and it is resonating. At the end of the day, members of the military set aside differences for the country. That's what Americans should expect from Congress as well. We represent different districts, but we ought to be able to find common ground.

I don't think you have to be a veteran to be a great leader, but I do think that veterans fundamentally understand what it means to put the country first in front of personal politics.

We're at the worst electoral position that the Democratic Party has been in in decades, and so when you keep losing like that, you can't keep doing the same old thing.
