I believe the extremes of both ideologies are what created Skid Row, by that, I mean the extreme right believes in NIMBYism -- not in my back yard. We'll shove all our problems into downtown LA and come down once a month and throw food and clothes at them and feel good about ourselves.

The shelters and the missions here, they give food and clothes to draw people in to get the services to that help people get on their feet -- like drug programs, alcohol programs, domestic violence program, job programs, but many of the folks from here won't use them, because they're getting their needs met on the streets of Skid Row.

This is where people's good intentions go in Skid Row, people donate clothes, and they're thrown in Los Angeles Street. People urinate, defecate in Los Angeles Street. Nobody cleans it up.

They were able to sell that we were hassling people, if I wasn't Deon Joseph, I would have believed it, too.
