I get worried when I see groups of senators that don't include members from the Northeast corridor that really care about making sure that we dramatically change transit times.

And now there is a unanimous consent request to pass a bill that’s under negotiation, discussion between serious legislators who actually want to find results, so, no, I’m not going to debate the merits of these [unanimous consent requests], this isn’t real.

This legislation would prevent Secret Service from undermining the work of the agency watchdog, and stop them from keeping the American people in the dark about things they deserve to know.

I've also been part of many failed negotiations in the past, so I'm sober-minded about our chances.

I don't know yet whether there's enough support to get to 60 votes on that, there's a lot of outstanding questions that we'll have to answer next week.

It's all about what can get 60-plus votes in the Senate GOP, and we're working on Senate GOP and Senate GOP will have to do with the spending as well as the provisions.

I've also heard Republicans make clear that as long as we're not talking about doing everything at once, as long as we're talking about more incremental but significant changes, they're open.

I've read carefully everything that Senator McConnell has said in the past 48 hours, and so far, I don't read anything Chris Murphy said to foreclose the deal that is very focused on keeping weapons out of the hands of potentially dangerous people.

I think next week is critical, my hope is that we'll have a product for both Republicans and House Democrats to look at when we return. And that will give us a sense as to whether we can get this passed. Every day that goes by I'm more optimistic. But I don't think we'll really know until everybody gets back in town.

Guns flow in this country like water, and that's why we have mass shooting after mass shooting, and, you know, spare me the bullshit about mental illness, we don't have any more mental illness than any other country in the world. We need to call out the separation that exists between how Republicans talk and how they vote, in the end, Ukraine doesn't give a crap about what The Republicans say at press conferences, they care about whether they're getting help or not.

I'm sure that the brave American soldiers who would be shooting it down knowing that it is flying towards the students — I'm sure that they had no doubt in doing so.

I think we need to be clear that we are not going to go to war with Russia, that would be the beginning of WWIII, and it would drag all of Europe into a much broader war.
