I'm not surprised they've reached outside for help understanding the portfolio, but in doing so, it highlights how the Department of Education isn't staffed accordingly to administer the student loans.

It could have gone further in ensuring a free access to higher education, however, I don’t think it’s critical that we have free education as long as it is affordable and I think this proposal is in line with that mentality.

Those who have a lot of outstanding debt tend also to have very high incomes. Therefore it isn’t a great way of sending benefits to those who really need them, and not necessarily an efficient use of taxpayer money.
