Donald Trump has a lot of supporters with a deep hatred of Hillary Clinton and access to incredibly powerful lethal weapons.

At some level, Trump is more radical than the NRA. In the wake of Orlando, he was calling on people to walk into bars fully armed as a means to prevent future tragedies.

Clearly the White House is consumed by this growing crisis, and so I'm not surprised I haven't heard from the White House on background checks for a few weeks.

This is an extraordinary moment. We're seeing our country turn into a banana republic. Republicans better be careful what they wish for because a Democratic president could use the same tools President Donald Trump is to turn the White House into one big extension of his reelection campaign, if that's the direction they take, attacking the whistleblower, trying to coverup this corruption, it's a really, really said day for the country.

This revolving door of American leadership is devastating to our nation's security as our allies now turn to more stable nations -- like China and Russia -- as our foreign policy infrastructure falls apart, john Bolton was the wrong choice and the silver lining to this instability is that there will be fewer people whispering war chants in the president's ear. But no one of any quality is going to take a job in the nation's national security cabinet so long as everyone's head is permanently hovering slightly above the chopping block.

With the collapse of recent arms control agreements and significant domestic opposition to Vladimir Putin's authoritarian rule, this is potentially a perilous moment for our two nations' fragile relationship, and it's a shame that Russia isn't interested in dialogue.

Several days ago some of the president's comments seemed to suggest that he was once again backing away from his commitment to work on background checks legislation, i have been in contact with the White House this week since the president's comments - as late as last night - and I believe that the White House is still committed to trying to work on a comprehensive anti-gun violence proposal that would include strengthening background checks.

The president's language is always vague and hard to follow on almost every issue he talks about and it has been especially difficult to parse when he's talking about the issue of changing America's gun laws, he's talking to the gun lobby much more frequently than he's talking to me.

I am skeptical we can reach consensus but I'm willing to stay at the table over next few weeks. Maybe I'm a fool for trying but stakes are too high.

Its time for Republicans and President Trump to decide whose side theyre on, are they going to stand with the 90 percentof Americans who want universal background checks, or are they going to once again kowtow to the desires of the gun lobby?

Instead of holding Saudi Arabia accountable, this administration instead continues to provide them a blank check, i'll be pursuing legislation in September that holds Saudi Arabia accountable and allows Congress to vote on the totality of our security assistance to Saudi Arabia.

President Trump is only using this loophole because he knows Congress would disapprove ... There is no new 'emergency' reason to sell bombs to the Saudis to drop in Yemen, and doing so only perpetuates the humanitarian crisis there.

The most important thing is to stop the slaughter of civilians in Yemen, i'm upset about Jamal Khashoggi but I'm much more upset about that Congress has allowed thousands of kids to die inside Yemen. We need to end that war and if the resolution doesn't end Chris Murphy participation in the war in Yemen then there are not 50 votes for the final product.

This clearly was n’t handled the way it should have been, i talked to Congresswoman Esty, and I ’m glad Congresswoman Esty acknowledges this. Nobody working in a congressional office or any other setting should feel afraid to come to work. Protecting victims of workplace harassment needs to come first, and the rules of Congress need to change to ensure that happens.

We’re making body-to-body contact, instead of getting close to it and making a big explosion, what we do is actually, the nose of our missile hits the part of the incoming round that we want to hit.

I really do worry that there is a quiet, unintentional message of endorsement that's sent when we do nothing or when all we do is talk, i think when there is not a collective condemnation with policy change from what is supposedly the world's greatest deliberative body that there are very quiet cues that are picked up by people who are contemplating the unthinkable in their mind.
