Hurricane Irma is a major and life-threatening storm, and Florida must be prepared, i have continued to be briefed by the Florida Division of Emergency Management on Hurricane Irma and current forecast models have Florida in Irma’s path – potentially impacting millions of Floridians.

In Florida, we always prepare for the worst and hope for the best, and while the exact path of Hurricane Irma is not absolutely known at this time, we can not afford to not be prepared.

I know firsthand how heartbreaking substance abuse can be to a family because it impacted my own family growing up, the individuals struggling with drug use are sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and friends and each tragic case leaves loved ones searching for answers and praying for help.

State Attorney Ayala's complete refusal to consider capital punishment for the entirety of her term sends an unacceptable message that she is not interested in considering every available option in the fight for justice, each of these cases I am reassigning represents a horrific loss of life. The families who tragically lost someone deserve a state attorney who will take the time to review every individual fact and circumstance before making such an impactful decision.

Floridians should not have to wait several days for the results of a major presidential election to be tabulated because of the delays in a few counties when the majority of counties, including major metropolitan areas, have been counted.

We encourage legislators to have a bipartisan, open and vigorous discussion about what changes need to be made to current Florida election law.
