Clearly the White House is consumed by this growing crisis, and so I'm not surprised I haven't heard from the White House on background checks for a few weeks.

This is an extraordinary moment. We're seeing our country turn into a banana republic. Several days ago some of the president's comments seemed to suggest that he was once again backing away from his commitment to work on background checks legislation, i have been in contact with the White House this week since the president's comments - as late as last night - and I believe that the White House is still committed to trying to work on a comprehensive anti-gun violence proposal that would include strengthening background checks.

The most important thing is to stop the slaughter of civilians in Yemen, i'm upset about Jamal Khashoggi but I'm much more upset about that Congress has allowed thousands of kids to die inside Yemen. We need to end that war and if the resolution doesn't end Chris Murphy participation in the war in Yemen then there are not 50 votes for the final product.

This clearly was n’t handled the way it should have been, i talked to Congresswoman Esty, and I ’m glad Congresswoman Esty acknowledges this. Nobody working in a congressional office or any other setting should feel afraid to come to work.
