The irony of course is that this is the government that has just led the world by committing to a zero-carbon economy.

It is a perfectly credible proposition that deserves to be tested in Parliament.

I'm not sure there's a majority in parliament in support of a second referendum, many people will be strongly opposed to it, but it's a coherent proposition and it deserves to be considered along with the other proposals.

One way or another Parliament is going to have the opportunity this week to decide what it is in favor of, and I hope that it will take that opportunity -- if it can't get behind the Prime Minister's deal -- to say clearly and unambiguously what it can get behind.

We also have a duty to ensure that the country can move forward and that will mean that we have to compromise, nobody is going to get their perfect Brexit out of this. We have to have a Brexit that represents a compromise that reflects the fact that actually the nation was divided pretty much down the middle in the referendum in 2016.
