If we do go forward to Monday, and if on Monday one or more propositions get a majority backing in the House of Commons, then we will have to work with the government to get the government to implement them. There is nobody else other than the government to implement them.

I am absolutely behind the government now as long as they continue with this bill, continue with the deal, I will support it, I will vote for it, there will be no more Oliver Letwin amendments next week because there don't need to be, I am supporting the bill.

My aim is to ensure that Boris's deal succeeds, but that we have an insurance policy which prevents the UK from crashing out on 31 October by mistake if something goes wrong during the passage of the implementing legislation.

I am accepting that we may well not be able to (stop a no-deal Brexit), nobody can tell whether we will be able to get a majority in parliament for some way of doing something other than having a no-deal exit at the last minute, if it turns out that this government hasn't got a deal.

We will all have to seek compromise. We almost know that if we all vote for our first preference, we will never get to a majority solution, i do not believe there is a majority in favor of the first preferences of any person in this House.

I still hope even at this last moment ... that those of my colleagues who have not been backing the prime minister .. may change their minds and the prime minister might get a deal over the line on Thursday or Friday. If she does, no one would be happier than I am.
