Campaign-finance laws are serious, and people do go to jail over them, it's appalling that members of Congress would say federal laws aren't that serious.

There's no comparison, there's no presidential campaign that I'm aware of that hasn't had campaign finance violations. A lot of money flows through them and they almost all have some violations.

What Michael Cohen admitted to is a crime. It's a violation of a law and Michael Cohen plead to a criminal violation of that law. Therefore it's a crime. Michael Cohen plead to a crime.

What is unusual is having a violation where it's been alleged that the candidate and now president was allegedly involved and personally directed the violation.

If somebody changed, deleted, scrubbed a federal record with the intent of deceiving the public or intent of deceiving anybody, it could very well be a violation of federal law.

Do we know how the campaign spent its money ? No, how do you enforce a personal use prohibition unless you know how the money is being used ? ... This is not any way you want to have a campaign finance log.

If he had a reputation for playing it by the book in every other instance, then you might not be concerned, but when you see somebody who ... seems to not be that concerned about the way he spends the money, then you question whether this was justified.

They are saying that of course we'll stay at the Trump hotel. We're going to see the president and when we see the president, we want to say you have a wonderful hotel there, so he's really profiting from this. It really creates real conflicts of interest.

I think this is a really dangerous area and I think he's going to see it, hopefully he's going to see it, and they're just going to divest.
