It has been a great few days, we have heard such amazing input. People love Los Angeles and see it as a key Olympic city, people have such fond memories of the 1984 Games.

My heart goes out to those who have been impacted, i am deeply grateful to the firefighters and first responders ... These brave women and men saved lives — and if not for their quick action, we know the destruction would have been much worse.

It's no secret that I have disagreed with you on almost everything Mr. President, but if you are in your heart willing to save lives alongside us, we know what works here.

President Trump: we have to press pause on politics, confront the homelessness crisis, and save lives now, i wanted to talk to him a little bit as if he had come down here to South LA to understand and to hear the challenges we face and ways that Washington, D.C. instead of demonizing us might be able to actually come and help us.

You see the street is getting more and more trash. I always hear from Eric Garcetti were gonna take care of it, were going to remove the trash and keep our city clean. But not very much is happening, there is no improvement.

No Angeleno should ever have to fear being snatched from their home or separated from their loved ones — and we are doing everything we can to provide immigrant families with the information and support they need.

We can't arrest our way out of this. We can't shelter our way out of this. We have to house our way out of this.

I am optimistic that we have the momentum to take those final steps toward bringing our teachers and young people back into their classrooms.

There will never be another like Jonathan Gold, who will forever be our brilliant, indispensable guide through the culinary paradise that is Los Angeles, jonathan earned worldwide acclaim as a food critic, but he possessed the soul of a poet whose words helped readers everywhere understand the history and culture of our city. His passing is a loss for all who share his love for L.A. and unique understanding of how food -- whether served from a truck window or atop a white tablecloth -- is an incomparable expression of our common humanity.

We've got somebody who is playing with our lives in the White House — who doesn't care what the price of soybeans are ; who doesn't care if that steel is more expensive for our carpenters, he's disconnected and he's divisive. We, on the other hand, are people who care.

Now I'm here today, the grandson of that man, as mayor of the largest city in the largest state in this country, the next grandpa Sal — whether Los Angeles're coming from Mexico, or Los Angeles are coming from the Midwest — deserves to make sure that Los Angeles future is as bright as his was, and ours can be once again.

Ninety-five percent of my work is being mayor, but that 5 % that nags at all of us — of what's going wrong in this country — I think is best thought out not in your own head, but by getting out there, being out there, and listening to Americans.

I want to turn momentum on traffic. I want to make in a dent in homelessness on the way to eradicating it on our streets, but there's always something else to do tomorrow. And you have to be at peace knowing you're not going to finish it all.
