It's very much the last thing that's needed right now, especially in the aftermath of the Paris attacks, when there was hope that Russia could form an alliance with France and with the United States against ISIS, this is going to complicate things. This is going to add unnecessary tensions that really weren't required at this critical juncture.

This is a terrorist outfit.

The type of monuments that are in Sultanahmet Square are the type that ISIS has been blowing up in Syria, it's seen as a place where you have a mesh of different entities. It's a real melting pot.

An attack like this is designed to create economic, political and social consequences, turkey has to realize that the pipeline that feeds ISIS from Turkey to Syria has to now be cut off, because incidents like this are not one-offs. This could be part of a series of plots.

This is a situation that unfortunately was almost inevitable at some point, because Turkey has long been accusing Russia of interfering in their airspace, they've threatened them in the past. And even though economic relations between the two countries are strong -- politically, there have been tensions recently.

It created more speculation in the media, in some ways, the nom de guerre of Jihadi John gave this individual a form of notorious celebrity.

We know that ISIS recruits a lot of Westerners who are skilled in new media, understanding of the Internet, because they use that as their platform as an oxygen of publicity.

An attack that took place in Ankara is very much designed to create political, economic and social repercussions, and one worries that in the build up to the elections there could be follow-up events that further damage the social fabric of Turkey, it's very important that cool heads prevail, that there is a proper investigation, that the culprits are identified quickly and also then brought to justice.

This was supposed to be a peace rally. This was supposed to be about bringing Turkey together to show unity amongst the Turks and the Kurds and the other ethnic groups. This attack very much has now ripped that apart.
