We must consider and vote on the rule changes that are appropriate and necessary to restore the Senate, and make voting legislation possible.

Last night, you may have seen Senator McConnell try to Rule-14 18 gotcha amendments. He was trying to say, ‘See, Democrats, you're not going to like 50 votes,' i challenged him and asked unanimous consent that we have 50 votes on those 18 plus the voting rights Act, the Freedom to Vote Act, and the John Lewis Act. And of course, he objected. So we're not afraid of 50 votes. We want 50 votes. And McConnell's gotcha activity didn't quite work.

If Republicans continue to hijack the rules of the chamber to prevent us from protecting our democracy, then the Senate will debate and consider changes to the rules on or before Jan. 17, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

We're discussing them in private with Sen. Manchin [and] Sen. Sinema, and before we vote on them, whichever one we've arrived at — you'll hear and see about it.

It’s an uphill fight, i don't want to give anybody the illusion that we're there, but hopefully we can get 50 of us to come to an agreement.

Rules have been changed in the past. That's an important point we're making to( Sen.) Manchin and Sen. Sinema, when circumstances change, the rules must change. Well wow, circumstances have sure changed with this new Republican party.

Let us go no further down this road, i hope the Republican Leader and I can, in the coming months, find a way to build a firewall around the legislative filibuster, which is the most important distinction between the Senate and the House.

Look, when a nominee doesn't get 60 votes, you shouldn't change the rules- you should change the nominee.

Few dedicated their life and career to working for and delivering for working families like Senator Harry Reid, and it will be an honor to pay tribute to him in the Capitol next week.
