Maritza, Rafael is looking down on you today and he is so proud of you. He’s so proud of you the way that you’ve carried yourself for the last 19 months with such dignity and strength, so proud of you that you decided to remain in the home where you shared so many of your memories and dreams … I know that he is most proud of you that you turned to Christ.

Its enormous because theres been an enormous sacrifice by so many families in America, because we recognized the heroism of people who perform every day for our country and community.

Its important that we remember as Americans that we make a promise to these families [of men and women] who go out and die for us, that were going to take care of their families afterward.

I lost my brother on September 11th, 2001. We know that we went to war because of what happened [on 9/11]. Thats why our foundation makes sure we take care of the greatest of all, our heroes, Gold Star Families, and most certainly those catastrophically injured service members.

What a sacrifice by a husband, a superhero, someone who not only serveshis country, also a New YorkCity firefighter who serves his community.

We want to make sure people never forget, he would be very humbled of what was going on in his honor, in his memory.

When the dust settles, everybody goes home and these families are left, they are grieving and they get on with life without their loved ones, and we want to make sure we are going to be there for them long afterward.

Our foundation couldn't be more honored to be chosen to hold the first stair-climb event at One World Trade Center.
