Preterm delivery rates have declined between 2005 and 2014 in the Cande Ananth and in several European countries, so reducing the burden of early deliveries, and in turn improving perinatal survival, will be of tremendous benefit to society.

In the past decade, there have been some obstetrical interventions, as well as physician education, resulting in a decline in births at preterm or early term gestations, indeed, what we found is that the decline in perinatal mortality was largely attributable to changes in the gestational age distribution.

We did not look at race-specific trends in this paper, although we did recognize race and ethnicity as a potential confounder, that would be a topic worthy of investigation in the next set of studies.
