There is a big, gray cloud that you have now put over people who have very important work leading the country.

The president doesn’t go and physically wiretap something, but the other issue out there is the unmasking of names, the leaking of names. That happened to [former National Security Adviser] Michael Flynn. The concern we have is: Are there any other surveillance activities in the unmasking of names?

We need to figure out what happened here, there's a lot of unanswered question. I just don't want anybody jumping to any conclusion on any side of this, other than the fact that we know that Obama didn't physically wiretap Trump Tower, but everything else is still ... there's a lot of unknowns.

We don't have any evidence that that took place and, in fact, I don't believe -- just in the last week of time, the people we've talked to -- I don't think there was an actual tap of Trump Tower.

I'll let my comments stand from the other day, which I still think are the same, we are very interested in looking into anything to do with (the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) -- especially FISA on any Americans.

What we're trying to get to the bottom of, is how did the assessment on December 5 that they gave us, how did it radically change -- with the major change being that specifically that the Russians were trying to get Donald Trump elected, and that's what we're trying to get to the bottom of, it's just a major shift we need to understand and we're the oversight body.

What I'm assuming is, is that this was picked up as they were tracking someone else, and if that's the case, that would have had to go up to the highest levels of the Obama administration to get approval to unmask who [the non-targeted party was], and in this case, it was General Flynn.

We heard from a lot of whistle-blowers and other informants who have given us information. And not just … related strictly to the latest allegations.

We travel to many of these countries and we meet with the people on the ground and it's almost all the time, what we hear and see on the ground when we talk to the folks that are actually doing the work, is grimmer than the intelligence reports.

More alarming, what we hear the president and his senior officials saying to the public - it just doesn't jive with, what they're saying in public and what we see on the ground.

There's nothing specific, except for the threat that they've been putting out there on the Internet, so at this point, we have to take everything seriously.

We did have many of these people identified, but there are so many thousands and thousands of them, and they're all over Western Europe and even in the United States, and then with the technology they're using today and the rules and the lessons that they've learned through fighting us the last 15 years, they've gotten very good at hiding from intelligence services across the globe.

I've met with a lot of conservative Republicans over the last four days, and they are not happy, they want something done and they want something done now because we look like a party that can't govern. And when they understand that over 200 of us were supporting Boehner and were also willing to support [Kevin] McCarthy and also wiling to support Paul Ryan. This is starting to not make sense to our conservative Republican base.

This battle is guided by our intelligence community, which has the difficult task of gathering reliable information about terrorists who inhabit dangerous parts of the world. Although our intelligence is outstanding, it is not perfect.
