I think, weirdly, because of the people that I’ve met and the places that I’ve been fortunate enough to go to, I’ve always had a connection and a love for nature. I view it differently now, without question.

If I’d known that that was the last time I was going to speak to my mother the things that I would – the things I would have said to her, there’s not a day that William and I don’t wish that she was still around, and we wonder what kind of a mother she would be now, and what kind of a public role she would have, and what a difference she would be making.

I didn’t see that as being a staged thing. I thought it was entirely spontaneous and clever in making the two brothers talk to each other, it was a deft move that shows the Duchess is not overawed by all that’s going on.

I’m somewhat ashamed of the way that I dealt with it, and of course, because of the system that we were in and the responsibilities and the duties that we had, we had a quick cuddle and then we had to get changed to jump in a convoy with a police escort and drive to the Royal Albert Hall for a charity event. Then step out into a wall of cameras and pretend as though everything’s OK.

The thing that stopped her from seeing it through was how unfair it would be on me after everything that had happened to my mum and to now be put in a position of losing another woman in my life, with a baby inside of her, our baby, the Me You Can’t See.

So many people are afraid of being on the receiving end of that conversation because they don’t feel like they have the right tools to give the right advice.

It’s incredibly sad, but I have no regrets at all because now I’m in a place where I feel as though I should have been four years ago, i don’t get panic attacks. I’ve learned more about myself in the last four years than I have in the 32 years before that. And I have my wife to thank for that.

Within the first eight days of our relationship being made public, was when they said, ‘Harry’s girl almost straight out of Compton,’ and that her exotic DNA will be thickening the royal blood.

Therapy has equipped me to be able to take on anything he said, that’s why I’m here now, that’s why my wife is here now. Without therapy and without doing the work, we would not be able to withstand this. I’ve never had any anger through this, I’ve always had compassion.

I like to think that we were able to speak truth in the most compassionate way possible, therefore leaving an opening for reconciliation and healing.
