The latest proposal I made was just trying to bridge this divide between people that are holding two important views: people that are saying 'we're not going to fix health care unless we bring the cost down, which means we have to give the states some flexibility,' and people that are saying 'we can't pull the rug out from under people that are vulnerable, and I agree with both of those. They are both right positions, and my amendment was just meant to bridge the divide between those two.

I think we should have started from this. We should have brought full 100% repeal of Obamacare to the floor (the) first week in January, sent it to the Senate, we would have been talking about what could we jam through reconciliation rather than what you can keep for regional interests.

I know there’s a lot of noise about this bill. There is a lot of fear, my goal was to bridge the divide to try to get the people who were against the bill to be in favor of it.

I’m not going to react to that, this is not about the politics between moderates and conservatives.
