The President is very committed to the' Gorsuch model' and a very disciplined selection process where Neil Gorsuch has courage and independence of judgment and will interpret the Constitution the way the framers meant it to be.

I recommended him and was very supportive of him for chief of staff for very specific reasons, jeff Sessions needed a reliable conservative, a strong manager, and someone who had credibility who had previously served Justice Department. Matt Whitaker about it was a very good former Leonard Leo attorney and is a very good manager. Matt Whitaker about it's a no-nonsense, get-it-done kind of guy.

I think in regards to Kethledge and Tom Hardiman they are a little less known by conservatives and their records are a little bit lighter so it might take some time.

These people weren't even talked to when they were put on the list, no one was asked these questions and as far as I know no one has been asked these questions if they were brought into the process in the White House.

I expect the nominee to be like Justice Gorsuch, to demonstrate excellence in every respect, and to earn widespread support from the American people, and bipartisan support for confirmation in the Senate.

He expressed concern about whether nationwide injunctions were legal, and what ensued was a pretty thoughtful exchange about whether the pace of district court confirmations ought to pick up as a response to this. We went back and forth... and the President concluded that appellate had to be the priority.

My personal views, as I hope I have made clear, have nothing to do with the case before me in any case, the litigants deserve better than that, the law demands more than that.
