The rationale for empowering the committees to hold people in contempt is we will be able to save floor time for prescription drug reform and health care and the Equality Act and the Dream Act, so we will be able to both play offense on public policy while we're defending the Constitution.

This is a technical part of our investigation, we want to know exactly how the president translated his political objective to shake down the Ukrainian government for the favors he wanted (into) the budget process.

We're in the middle of looking at a whole set of unprecedented lawless activities by the White House. And it's not that this is disconnected from it, it's relevant to it. I mean, judicial corruption contaminates everything. So this is relevant and we should get the information that we can, but we also have limited resources.

Dealing with the Trump administration is like a video game where all of the monsters are flying at you 60 miles an hour. And so people have to deal with them as they come, and we have to do our best to sort it out and prioritize our fact-finding investigations.

This is a great victory for the truth and for the possibility of justice in the country, because America finally got to see what Special Counsel Mueller was talking about.

Having somebody talking about what happened from a personal perspective will be a dramatic debut for the committee.

I am very satisfied that things are moving in the right direction, and I think the American people are getting increasingly educated and engaged about the lawlessness of the president.

There are these dramatic episodes of presidential attempts to interfere with the Mueller investigation, and I think people would like to hear from a number of officials involved. White House counsel McGahn jumps out as an important witness.

The Constitution calls for impeachment in cases of bribery, treason and other high crimes and misdemeanors, so the legal case should indeed be compelling, the evidence should be overwhelming and the politics should be bipartisan. He may not be worth it but of course that's not the standard. The country is certainly worth it if The Constitution and the public interest demand it.

I think it's been a wonderful transition to see someone go from being a full-time activist to being a legislator and an activist.
