There's a lot of work to do - not only the science but maintaining the facilities up here. When you go down from a crew of six to a crew of three, obviously you've lost half of your crew time available, so it does have an impact. But it's an impact we plan for.

The telomeres are the things that are in our chromosomes that are indications of our physical age, so as we age, they get shorter – mine got longer in space, so it was a little bit like the fountain of youth – unfortunately when I got back down to Earth they went back down to where they were.

I think that we have the technology, we have the smarts, we don’t always have the support, which means, really, the bottom line is the money, it’s going to be expensive, but I think it’s going to be well worth it - I think there are things that we get out of the space program that we can’t get anywhere else.

A lot of people think [that] to be a scientist you have to be a genius – I am here to tell you that that is not the case, i was not a genius growing up – I was the kid that couldn’t do his homework, but I found this inspiration – 18 years later I was flying in space.

Scott's contributions to NASA are too many to name, in his year aboard the space station, he took part in experiments that will have far-reaching effects, helping us pave the way to putting humans on Mars and benefiting life on Earth.

I don't think I would ever say I'm absolutely 100% done because I think there's a lot of exciting possibilities out there, maybe in the commercial aspect, certainly, they might need a guy like me someday.

Going to Mars is doable, we're close enough that if we make the choice, I think we can do it.

If you're going to Mars in a smaller vehicle than the space station and living practically on top of one another, having that space that (the astronauts) spend so much time in is very, very important, you have to make it as perfect as you can, including the environment, air temperature, interfacing with the system, communication, entertainment and noise abatement because you're sleeping, living, exercising and eating right next to each other.

Adjusting to space is easier than adjusting Earth for me, i never felt completely normal up there, but coming back to gravity is harder than leaving gravity.

I will never be done with space, I will always be involved, i think everyone should be able to go to space. It depends on the person and what experience they would want. It would be great to have a variety of ways to get to space or near space for the view. Maybe in the next 20 years, you can buy a cheap ticket for a little visit.

This was something we could share together and it made the experience more rewarding, rather than just our conversations on a daily basis.
