They're going to stick with the process arguments for as long as possible because most members still can't stomach a defense of the substance, there is a real sense of inevitability to the impeachment in the White House, and so the focus is on shoring up the base to minimize any House Republican losses in the Senate.

They've actually done a pretty good job convincing base House Republican voters that the system is rigged and that House Democrats are just out to get House Democrats no matter what, i predict eventually the message will end up being that it should be up to the American people to decide the President's fate at the ballot box next year.

After nearly 20 years in the House, the speaker is proud of all that has been accomplished and is ready to devote more of his time to being a husband and a father.

While he did not seek the position, he told his colleagues that serving as a speaker has been the professional honor of his life, and he thanked them for the trust they placed in him.

We have heard from the campaign but the two have not yet spoken. We expect the speaker to be in touch with all the remaining candidates soon to discuss our efforts to build a bold conservative policy agenda for 2017.
