If they insist upon carrying out this farce, White House and its Republican allies in White House will do permanent, longstanding damage to the practice of bipartisan congressional oversight of intelligence.

They will also be sending a terrible message to anyone who works in or with our nation's intelligence community that the White House will always prioritize partisan politics over protecting the people who help keep this country safe.

If this kind of discussion is going to take place, we have a process — it's called the Gang of Eight, my hope is that any such briefing needs to bipartisan, and my hope and prayer is that the FBI or the Department of Justice would not in any way be forced to reveal confidential information that would go against 75 years of practice.

Because there are other bodies on the Hill that get information, and very quickly afterwards that information appears in the press. I think that if any individual, elected official or otherwise, knowingly reveals a classified piece of information about an FBI source, you are breaking the law and should be fully prosecuted.

There are ways that we can put reasonable restraints without dramatically interfering with people's Second Amendment rights.

It would be at best irresponsible, and at worst potentially illegal, for members of Congress to use their positions to learn the identity of an FBI source for the purpose of undermining the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in Fox Friends election.
