We do have problems getting into a few places, usually due to some disagreement with a landowner, mostly ranchers are fairly cooperative farther north, and closer to the border we have authority to go in anyway.

It's very desolate, very remote.

People think if one candidate wins, certain things will happen, like a giant wall being built and then they can never get through, another faction believes that if the other candidate wins, they’ll get amnesty if they’re here by a certain date.

When you stop somebody, you ask their name and the first thing they tell you is – ‘I’m here for asylum, I can’t go home because they’ll kill me.’ … When it takes a good five or six minutes just to get their name out of them, they have a rehearsed story, once they get those papers saying they can pass through our checkpoint, we’ll never see them again.

It’s part of this culture, I think, where everyone’s just looking to get ahead so fast and so furiously that they forget to enjoy the ride, look for inflection points that they can improve their career, be a sponge, find mentors, things like that, we coach them to be patient, and we coach them that they’re winning, and we coach them to be a sponge and look for these inflections points.

They know, they scout us when our shift changes. They know everything that's coming along. And when they see stuff like this, when it hits the media, they start mobilizing.

Someone called in and started out reporting some sort of activity, and the call then turned into threats against law enforcement, threats against the dispatcher, and ultimately threats against law enforcement in general, he then claimed to have an agent that was kidnapped that he planned to kill, and he claimed to work for one of the cartels.
