We look at Brit's text as a gift to us, that three hours before the earthquake, Grand Goave would send that text message and it resonated with us, there's no relief from the poverty here, and we're doing everything we can to help the community in which we live.

My philosophy as I was building was, I lost my daughter in Haiti and I’m not going to lose anybody else here, i feel very confident that we built them a safe building.

When Brit’s Home opened, one of our first priorities was to create emergency procedures, our daughter did not know an emergency plan when the earthquake hit.

All we can do now is wait, we feel cautiously optimistic that we have a very safe place for our kids and staff.

People in town don’t have communication we do, so we go around the community and tell people what we are hearing when a storm like this hits.

The biggest challenge is that we have broken hearts, everyone here has been affected by the earthquake. You don't meet anyone who hasn't lost a loved one. It's helpful to be around people who understand our pain.

As an American, I came to Haiti thinking I was going to help Haiti, but in actuality, Haiti has helped me.
