If any Senate Republican opposes issuing subpoenas to the four witnesses and documents we've requested they would make it absolutely clear they are participating in a cover up in one of the most sacred duties we have in this Congress, in this Senate, and that is to keep a president in check.

As I said, discussion in this kind of situation is not out of the question at all, saying youre going to do just what the president wants is totally out of line and Mitch McConnell has received a lot of justified criticism for that.

It's hard to imagine a trial not having documents and witnesses. If it doesn't have documents and witnesses, it's going to seem - to most of the American people - that it is a sham trial, a show trial.
