Pregnant women need to take the best precautions possible when traveling where this [ Zika ] virus is spreading.

However, recent chikungunya and dengue outbreaks in the United States suggest that Zika outbreaks in the U.S. mainland maybe likely limited in size.

If [this outbreak] continues for a number of months it's not a failure of the system. We don't have tools yet to minimize outbreaks rapidly.

The public can help by using repellant, minimizing mosquitoes on property and getting medical attention without delay.
