We’ve been seeking to find a way to get Republicans in Congress to accept an invitation from Democrats for months to engage in bipartisan talks on the budget, republicans put it off for so long that it’s difficult to imagine a bipartisan budget agreement before the deadline.

I would not envision a long extension of funding at current levels, but rather enough time for Congress to finally convene the talks, reach an agreement and implement it, thereby avoiding a government shutdown but also insuring that our national security and economic priorities are properly funded.

Based on their analysis they have not detected any sort of threat or threatening activities, they are monitoring movement of the ships but the intent of this is still unclear.

It was clear that leaders on Capitol Hill wanted to get this done. It was also clear this was a priority for the president and they wanted language from White House. They also wanted to be consulted in advance of sending that language up.

The 529 provision is a very small component of the President's overall plan to deliver $50 billion in education tax cuts for middle class families, we proposed it because we thought it was a sensible approach, part of consolidating six programs to two and expanding and better targeting education tax relief for the middle class.

Given it has become such a distraction, we're not going to ask Congress to pass the 529 provision so that they can instead focus on delivering a larger package of education tax relief.
