The Mercosur agreement ... gives us possibilities and means to exert pressure to influence things on the ground (in Brazil).

I consider now, as before, that the situation is extremely explosive, military confrontation in the Gulf would mean the whole region in flames, and that cant be in anyones interest.

This is an instrument of a new kind, so it's not straightforward to operationalize it, but all the formal requirements are in place now, and so I'm assuming we'll be ready to use it in the foreseeable future.

What has happened in recent days acts of sabotage against ships or pipelines are indications that these dangers (of escalation) are concrete and real.

The decision of the High Election Board to annul the local election in Istanbul and order a re-run is in our view not transparent and not comprehensible.

The agreement we negotiated with Britain is already a compromise - especially regarding the arrangements for Northern Ireland, there must not be a hard border to the Republic of Ireland... We cannot risk the Northern Ireland conflict flaring up again.

So the question is what the deal looks like, in the end, it will be about the question (of) whether to reopen the deal which needs the approval of all 27 member states, which means that everyone has to join in. This is what needs to be discussed now.

Europe has proved to the world that multilateralism and sovereignty are not a contradiction in terms, on the contrary, in a world faced with immense global problems, we can only safeguard sovereignty if we work together.
