I guess that if baiting young girls and sharing their embarrassment via a frightening YouTube video is the best we can do when it comes to 'educating' our kids, it's better than nothing.

We know that throwing the book at them, it's too much too late, so that's not working, it's very normal teenage behavior... and we need to get with the times and get ahead of the problem, and just have these very easy to have discussions.

I mean that was a complete surprise to literally all 28 kids, so it occurred to me that no one's ever bothered to tell these kids they couldn't do that.

You hear that sound and you feel like you have to respond to it immediately, we have to remember that every time we do that, there's a child watching. Maybe it's a child that's not even watching yet but they're going to remember that that's a behavior that we have condoned.

We're creating this culture where we disconnect from our phones even when we are transporting children around, and I think that's really where it happens. It trickles down from the top.

What I always tell parents is it's not the technical stuff that they need to know. It's the behavioral things, and it's age old things like being nice online and being wise and not saying mean things, protecting privacy and don't talk to strangers and all those ... golden rules, like the golden rules, they weren't delivered to me all at once. They were delivered again and again and again throughout my lifetime.

Then end it with, 'That's really kind of cool. Can you set me up with a Twitter? Can you tweet me?' Once they start tweeting you, you are involved in their world now. one little girl said, 'I wish my mom was following me on Instagram,' or 'I wish my mom had looked at what I posted but she just isn't interested or she doesn't know,' and they're sad.

In some ways, I think the 'tech talk' is replacing the 'sex talk' because our kids are learning about sex from tech.

Digital drama is often an extension of what happens at school.

What's on the rise right now is hate speech in adults, it makes me sad because that's what kids see us role modeling. Hopefully kids look at that and go in the opposite direction.
