Following the fall of the last territory held by Islamic State group, we fear there is an extra risk of losing track of Louisa, though we remain hopeful this period will instead open new opportunities for us to learn more about her whereabouts and well-being, we call on anyone with information to please come forward. If our colleagues are still being held, we call for their immediate and unconditional release.

The health situation is typical of the heavy tolls that this conflict has taken on the whole country, on its people, but also on the system -- the health, water, sanitation system, health workers, doctors, nurses have not been paid for more than eight months and the whole system is of course overflowing, especially now with cholera.

In addition to the crises widely covered in 2015, next year on my radar will be Burundi (and the Great Lakes area), Israel and the Occupied Territories and Afghanistan, having worked in Afghanistan for 30 years, we see that the conflict is far from over and civilians continue to pay a heavy price: 2015 was one of the deadliest years since 2001. A deteriorating security situation forces people to leave their homes and seek refuge in neighbouring countries or try dangerous routes to Europe.

Humanitarian needs in Afghanistan are not diminishing. They are growing. We see the fighting is increasing in intensity, it is vital, at this time, that donors maintain their commitment to the most vulnerable in Afghanistan.
