The United States might have been discontent with the difference between what South Koreans told them about denuclearisation and what they actually found out when they met the North Koreans.

Kim is just saying that now that the nuclear development is complete, he will put all the efforts toward building an economy.

There were agreements between the U.S. and North Korea to open up discussion on a peace treaty, but they never materialized, the U.S. wants a peace treaty at the end of the denuclearization process, while for the North, it’s the precondition for its denuclearization.

This can be seen as a virtual summit as the whole process was controlled and observed by the two leaders, this kind of last-minute meeting between South and North Korea, with the backdrop of combat posture raised to the maximum level, was unprecedented.
