The strong southerly flow from the jet stream could have brought it from an active volcano in southwest Colima, Mexico. But if we go farther west towards eastern Russia, there's another active volcano there.

That leaves open all kinds of possibilities -- more flooding, and the possibility of landslides and mudslides.

This is a rare occurrence that took place because cool, damp air became trapped in the lower levels of the canyon, it was literally stuck underneath a warm layer of air just above. In the meteorological world, this is referred to as an inversion when the temperature actually warms with height (as opposed to it cooling with a rise in altitude).

Most notably, this record warmth is not contained to any specific part of the world. Meaning, we are all in this together, so far this year, record-breaking warmth has been observed in at least every continent and major ocean basin of our planet. This is something we cannot ignore.
