So, recruiting is only part of it. Retaining good people is the other half that we don't often talk about.

The fear is that they could lose everything for making a mistake on the job, even if they don't have ill will intent, many officers then take the position that it's not worth it to be in this profession.

That's the one protection that officers have that makes them willing to go out and do this work, they are being asked to go and deal with violent situations and compelled to perform these jobs on behalf of the city.
