I think Daniel Murphy definitely is premeditated what he'd like to do. He's very good about not missing his pitch when he sees it. I know the ball has to look like at least a softball right now, at least, maybe more to the beach ball variety. He's seeing everything that well. He's a good hitter that is seeing the ball really well right now, and you have to make good pitches to get him out.

Our prep's not going to be any different. It will be optional batting practice like there was today. I don't want any more work. I don't want extra study.

You rarely think about just throwing to third base to get one out. That's probably the industry's fault with all of that.

Javy [Baez] grew up in Puerto Rico, played a lot of baseball as a youth, played a lot of winter ball. He's been taught properly and well.

I'm very pleased with all of our guys. We had the one good game offensively in Cleveland. We just need that one moment. We have to have a one-game winning streak tomorrow, and if we do that, I really would be feeling pretty good about going back to Cleveland.

My coaching staff gets to go to the World Series. From a financial perspective that's great for coaches because baseball coaches in the Major League level don't really make that much money. People don't realize that.

In a way, bad news, but also good news at the same time, we're both going to move on, The Cubs are going to flourish, hopefully I get a chance to do this somewhere else. But there's no tears shed. It's a good moment for everybody, and we're both excited about our futures.

The thing I’ve always heard about the Cubs being lovable losers, I never quite understood that. That’s not the way I was raised, getting here and not paying attention to the superficial nonsense, the superstition that really has dragged a lot of people’s minds down ... to escape that is great, to continue to move it forward. The perception has changed.

The fact that it’s even considered a race just amazes me, if you’re just going by a generated numerical metric, you’re going to be deceived often. I have n’t seen that body of work in a season, better than him. I ’m going to say this, he’s the best infielder. Him and( A's third baseman Matt) Chapman are two of the best infielders I’ve seen this year. Do n’t tell me there’s anybody out there, both leagues, that play that position like he does.

Every day for the rest of the season, he’s probably going to do something that really stands out.

He feels as if it’s as good as it’s been in a long time and that’s good to hear from him. I trust him, mikey has no agenda. He’s as pure as a New Jersey snowfall. He’s as superstar, a player and human being. I really enjoy my conversations with him. It could be about anything.

He’s kind of like a Scherzer type, this guy’s really good, that’s not a fluke by any means. He’s going to be someone to reckon with. He’s the kind of a guy, the guy that we have to learn how to beat in our division, he’s that good.
