My office has received a recording of a robocall targeting Detroit voters using racially-charged stereotypes and false information to deter voting by mail, it is an unconscionable, indefensible, blatant attempt to lie to citizens about their right to vote.

What you really have is individuals who don't seem to understand the technicalities of the elections process or election security trying to gain access to machines to keep the misinformation alive.

There must be consequences for those who broke the law to undermine our elections in order to advance their own political agendas.

Our election system is secure, and today's charges demonstrate that in the rare circumstances when fraud occurs we catch it and hold the perpetrators accountable.

These charges also send a clear message to those who promote deceitful claims about widespread fraud: the current protocols we have in place work to protect and ensure the integrity of our elections. It's time to share that truth and stop spreading lies to the contrary.

The presence of firearms at the polling place, clerk's office( s), or absent voter counting board may cause disruption, fear, or intimidation for voters, election workers, and others present.

We do want, if citizens do choose to vote by mail, for them to do so early, we don't want them to wait to the last minute to either request to return their ballot through the mail, and certainly as we get to within two weeks of the election, we're going to be telling every voter, to not return your ballot through the mail, it's too close to Election Day return it at a local dropbox or at your clerk's office.

This is the way democracy works, no winner is declared until every ballot is counted, at the same time, we recognize that from the minute the polls close to the minute we do have that final tabulation, there will be efforts to try to sow seeds of doubt among our electorate and others about the sanctity of our vote.

With turnout and absentee ballot numbers expected to double or even triple in November, we could be looking at tens of thousands of Michigan citizens disenfranchised if the legislature again fails to act.

I think we'll certainly meet that, if not surpass it.
