Some of the issues with identity politics are critical moral issues. But we've got to show America that we don't have a plan just on these so-called identity politics issues, but that we have a plan for the economy, that we know how to provide for a strong national defense.

The late Rev. Peter Gomes at The Memorial Church at Harvard was a true mentor to me when I was in college. He instilled in me a commitment to service, saying that it's not enough to believe in service, or support those who serve - you ought to find a way yourself to serve. When I looked at different options after college, nobody inspired me more than the 18- and 19-year-olds who serve on the front lines of our nation's military. Serving with them in the Marines as we together served our country was the greatest honor of my life to date.

Fundamentally, I believe that’s what the American people expect of Congress as well. We all ought to be able to come together in Washington and do what’s best for our America.

Today, I want to use this opportunity ... to announce that I am ending my campaign for president, though this campaign is not ending the way we hoped, I am leaving this race knowing that we raised issues that are vitally important to the American people and our future.

I think it's evident that this is now a three-way race between (former Vice President Joe) Biden, (U.S. Senator Elizabeth) Warren and (U.S. Senator Bernie) Sanders, and really it's a debate about how far left the party should go.

As someone sent four times to that misguided war, I have seen the costs of Bolton's disastrous foreign policy in a way he never will -- firsthand, and at the loss of thousands of American lives.

I also just saw Lucy Flores ' statement, lucy Flores ' said we need to listen to women, and Lucy Flores ' is right. We need to listen to women. The bottom line here is that women deserve the respect and the opportunity to share these stories, and it takes tremendous courage to do so, and that's not easy, what she just did on TV.

I am disappointed to report that no agreement was reached in this initial meeting.

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi wants to boil this down to a personal argument, but this is so much bigger than Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, it's about the entire, stagnant, three-person leadership team and having a serious conversation about promoting leaders who reflect the future of our caucus.

Candidates like Amy McGrath are running against the establishment, they're rebelling, putting country over party and it is resonating. At the end of the day, members of the military set aside differences for the country. That's what Americans should expect from Congress as well. We represent different districts, but we ought to be able to find common ground.

I don't think you have to be a veteran to be a great leader, but I do think that veterans fundamentally understand what it means to put the country first in front of personal politics.

We're at the worst electoral position that the Democratic Party has been in in decades, and so when you keep losing like that, you can't keep doing the same old thing.

When I was a Marine fighting in Iraq, I understood that every time I went on a raid or patrol, I was fighting to empower the government of Iraq, what comes next gets harder.
