We have been surprised that so many banks have signed up to support Apple Pay, it's worth asking what Apple Pay brings that the banks can't do themselves.

If there was a gold mine people would probably have found it by now, but if you can generate some marginal incremental revenue at relatively little cost why wouldn't you do that?

Are people crying out for a really different method of making payments? I think that's not yet clear, consumers just want to buy stuff.
