One of the things that's beautiful about New Orleans is how culturally rich we are and how well we have worked together. People call us a gumbo. It's really important that we get focused on the very simple notion that diversity is a strength, it's not a weakness.

It's a common theme around the city of New Orleans; we're resilient people because we have to be. We love this place with all of our heart and all of our soul and I just wanted to try to do something that I could to help make it better.

One of the most special things about the city of New Orleans is how diverse a people we really are. There's been a new generation of individuals that have all grown up together, so I don't really see myself as a White mayor. I've never seen New Orleans as a Black city.

We`re heartened that Donald Trump wants to spend more money. I think the mayors of America would agree that we have a massive deficit in the infrastructure plan in America and we need more, but more particularly because they actually get it done. We need to know what the mechanism is going to be, how it`s gonna get to the mayors directly, so how we can get it in the ground more quickly, and we`re hoping to hear from both candidates tomorrow.

The city of New Orleans showed America what it takes to rebuild a great place. We're all going together, and we're not leaving anybody behind.

I would like somebody that knows exactly what they're doing, because they've done that before, that can stabilize and just rebalance the country for four years, i think I am. Honestly.

The federal government was responsible for building the levees, engineering the levees, and consequentially, the federal government is responsible for repairing the damage that has been done, which has not been completed yet.

There is nothing here that's broken that can't be fixed, but it won't happen on its own. You cannot take it as a fait accompli that the city's going to come back.

Eighty-five percent of us in this country, by the way, live in coastal areas, so again, Katrina and Rita were not just about New Orleans. There were a lot of lessons that the nation can learn from us if they just pay attention to the things that are going on down here.

The President says,' Look, I can't sit in my office and turn a dial and move gas down. I can't sit in my office and move inflation,' but what I can do is ask Congress and my team to help me reduce everybody's cost in other areas and wring efficiencies out of the system. That's where the infrastructure bill comes into play.

I said,' Mama, you can't have it both ways,' and her answer was,' I can have it whichever way I want because I'm your mama.'.

People are going to be frustrated because it's not too fast, then they're going to be frustrated because it's getting built and it's inconvenient, and when it's done, people may not even remember that it started.
