We are still assessing the underlying issue. All indications point to this being a hardware-related issue, not other factors.

I believe this lack of notice may not satisfy taxpayers' due process rights under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution because taxpayers do not have a meaningful opportunity to contest the certifications prior to them taking place.

Several of our systems are not currently operating, including our modernized e-file system and a number of other related systems, a number of taxpayer and tax practitioner tools are unavailable.

Although we have not yet completed our post-filing analysis, we are committed to conducting additional outreach to taxpayers, including letters to these specific taxpayers who did not have to report or make a payment. These letters will inform them about available exemptions and note that they may benefit from amending their return.

The IRS has strong protections in place to ensure that exempt organizations are selected for audit only for the purpose of enforcing the federal tax laws with fairness and integrity, no internal or external review conducted to date has found any indication that an exempt organization has been improperly selected for audit.

And hackers who would steal that information must know that they will suffer severe consequences for their crimes.
